The production process from song creation to Mix goes as follows:

Source tracks are created in Reason:

Music is created (recorded our midi instruments. Edits made to cleanup timing and rough approximation of mix balance and effects.

All of the mixing and effects are temporary to aid in the sound of the combined elements for creative process.

Sometimes buss work is done to help rough mixing. Mixes are saved at this point as mp3’s to track the sound of the original creative process mixes. An image of the rough mix can be saved here and documented to remember the balance and effects concepts. Inline effects processing may or may not be retained, depending on the situation.

When the song is at a point to move it into a real mixing process, the rough tracks are “normalized” removing effect processing and balance and volume adjustments. Removing all the bussing to maintain the source tracks.

All tracks are bounce in place exported as 96 K 24 bit files. These are saved to a separate mastering subset of folders to be imported into a Cubase project.

Mix Master Created in Cubase:

Source tracks are imported into Cubase Mixing template. Grouped by type, color coded.

Processing begins to fine tune the source tracks, all sorts of Waves plugins are used to refine the sounds by type. Effects are added either in-line or as effect send buses.

After a rough mix the Stereo out is exported as a 96 K wave file, with an mp3 file to post on-line.

Phase 2 Creative Development:

The mixed file is imported into a Mix V1. The source mix track is sliced and color coded to help identify song sections.

New parts can be added at this point to refine the process, song structure could possibly be edited here by cutting up the colored sections. The same process would be followed to migrate the new tracks to the Cubase Mix Master.

Track History Journal:

A page is created on ABTorbit.com to track the history of song development. A picture is used to help remember what the song is.

Notes are provided up front regarding Artist, Album, Genre, Song Chord Structure.

MP3 files are posted with each version along with notes both at the point of upload or follow up comments if something strikes any of the collaborators, listening to previous clips.
